Smudge-Proof or Water-Proof

Which type of mascara do you prefer?

Originally i love both. Both ways give me very good eye lashes.
However, recently i realise that i'l taking too long a time to remove mascara from my lashes. most ppl can just use the remover, press on eyelid for abt 10 to 15 seconds and ta-da!! all gone.

then i realise the problem with smudge proof cosmetics. Remover for waterproof cosmetics does not work for it. u need warm water. and i really hate that coz the idea of warm water washing my face reminds me of expanding my pores and inviting pimples.

however, i would recommend smudge-proof for oily skin. Coz i realise even oil will not remove the mascara. so in the event that you also have oily eye-lids, then u are in good luck.

Decided that i'll love my water-proof mascara instead.

The Body Shop Deadly Desire Review

Picture with thanks to www.galwayindependent.com

I saw this on body shop on wednesday and decide to take a look.

The Deadly Desire have lovely blushers with pretty good texture and color.
i supported 01 coz it is as pink as you see above, it give a sheer and mature look. i find the shade similar to bobbi brown mauve collection palette and thus decided to buy it. I did not try the lighter shade (peach).

The eye shadow, similar to other body shop products, is rough and abit pigmented.
Despite that the color look nice, i tried and find it difficult to blend.

the lip click reminds me of the stila lip glaze except that it is lip color, not gloss.
it has a smell that i really hate, and i realise only upon purchase.
if you wanna buy lip click, please check the color that you select and the color that the lady give u is the same. somehow the lady make a mistake for mine, and gave me 01 instead of 02 that i choose. but anyway, the color is not bad, and i find it not as drying as stila lip glaze, but still dries my lip out. And i find it difficult to get the color from the tube to the brush(haiz)

Last but not least, don't ask me abt eye liner, i dun use pencil type.

P.S. The Body Shop Members have storewide discount 20% on regular items till end of this week. Deadly Desire Collection is also entitled for discount.

Essential Co-Q10 Mask Sheet

from The Face Shop

Nothing special.

My understanding of this product is that it will make my face more supple.
Nothing like that at all.

In comparison, the Essential Pearl Mask Sheet is so much better. At least it does give my skin some difference. I'll stick with this for the time being.

P.S.: all these mask happen to have a strong smell like perfume etc that i don't really fancy. It sort of disturb my mum whenever i put the mask and she is in my room

Bobbi Brown Brightening Lip Gloss (Peach 3)

Peach 3 is the one on the extreme right.

i always fancy lip gloss, as compared to lip stick.
but apart from Paul & Joe and Anna Sui, i don't own any other lip sticks.
yet i have quite a few of lip gloss (with good and bad).

This lip gloss is a real babe.
it has light shimmer and little gloss,
and it is very comfortable on my lips as i don't feel its existence.
it survived through the whole morning with coffee and water drank,
only die during lunch.

after some touch up, a to-be-kiss lips are born again.

no sticky feeling unlike some lippy, and it does not have any weird scent.

small and compact (as compact to shiseido glosses), it would be pretty good for a small pouch on a evening dinner.

i have bought another color PINK, and will be trying soon (after my coffret d'or lippy).

Most loved Maybelline Mascara in Japan(esp Tokyo). (according to magazines)

Get one now at watsons, robinsons, guardian, or sasa.

Facial Cotton

Facial Cotton makes alot of difference in our skin.

I used to not think so. Coz the make purpose of facial cotton will be for removing makeup, applying toner, hydration (let's talk abt skin care only).

I'm quite surprised when i read a few articles that a wrong facial cotton may "scratch your face". The main reason is because the tiny fiber that is in cotton pad. The most impt part will be during removing make up and applying toner coz there is some wiping involve, which means may hurt our skin at the same time.

i haven been looking around in quite a few shops in Singapore to find better facial cotton. however, there are too many and i would have to buy them to try.

so let me do a summary of what i have tried.

1. Watsons facial cotton.

"+": Very Cheap, $4.95 for 3 packs, each packs have more than 150 pieces or abt 200 pieces.
"-": cotton will drop. abit rough if you compare with others.
use: for hydration, cleaning your palettes and mascara curler.

2. Daiso Facial Cotton.

"+": Cheap, $2 for one pack, one pack have 120 - 150 pieces. smooth texture. have rayon on both side.
"-": abit difficult to get (must go daiso), a similiar design @ BHG - kanebo cost $8++ for 60 pieces.
use: removing makeup

3. Kanebo Facial Cotton
"+": very smooth and comfortable.
"-": thick, thus absorbs alot of toner. abit expensive
use: hydration, apply toner.

Laneige Autumn 2008 Collection - Snow magic

Reading from some blogs, i found out abt this super nice design autumn cosmetic.

SNOW MAGIC EYE SHADOW PALETTE - 01

usually i spent my money on japanese cosmetics, or japanese-love cosmetics such as maquillage, anna sui, paul & joe etc

this is probably my 1st time buying a korean cosmetics and i really look fwd to it.

Let talk abt each item. i have tried everything at the counter, but bought only the 01 eye shadow

SNOW MAGIC MULTI-BASE PALETTE

nothing special about this. does not really gives the brightening effect. the texture is not gorgeous either.

SNOW MAGIC BLUSHER & HIGHLIGHTER PALETTE

the lady was telling me that this is one of the RARE ones that has highlight and blusher in one palette. hey excuse me, i have two of such palette then wouldn't it make me super lucky? anyway, the blush color and highlight color is not nice. and to make thing worse, becoz of the four-layer thingy (cove + highlight + blusher + brush) it make the cosmetics super thick.

SNOW MAGIC EYE SHADOW PALETTE

Last but not least, this is the one that i bought. i tried using it on friday morning and to my dissapointment the texture is not that fine, not really easy to blend. as for the colors, i give thumbs up to the brown, but look at the blue ... haiz.. it would be good to be a winter collection, not autumn i guess.

the plus points of SNOW MAGIC

1. The packaging is definitely gorgeous. The four-layer should be avoided, but the three-layers are really lovely. another plus point will be the snow-flake (that's why i say is winter collection ma).
2. The eyeshadow brushes are good. the applicator pick up the blue color very well, and also allow me to blend the color in the faster speed ever. the mini applicator is very fine and gentle, such that i can use to apply to my under lid with no risk in hurting my eyes.
3. the darkest color in the eyeshadow is just as good to be a eyeshadow or a eyeliner. both color (01 - brown, 02-purple) are gorgeous.

Price: SGD $49 (available @ robinson raffles city).

3. KATE (Fall series not in SG)
4. Laneige (only if you like the packaging)
5. Jill Stuart
6. Beaut de Kose
7. Lunasol

If you have dark skin color, i would recommend Bobbi Brown Mauve Palette.

Sunglasses

Hi everyone!! Do you have a pair of sunglasses??

Hey! don't think that it is only a pair fashion statement, you will need a good one to protect your eyes!!

I have previously mention about UVA and UVB. They are harmful to our skin, and also our eyes. Having a pair of good sunglasses that block all the harmful UV ray is just as important as protecting your skin.

So get a pair of sunglasses now if you don't have one.

Image + Fragrance @ August

Apart from skincare and cosmetics, there is another important item that i would highly recommend to you.

F-R-A-G-R-A-N-C-E!!

i think many people may disagree coz they don't use it. But personally, i love fragrance , and the only reason i don't use is because everyday a little baby will sleep in my room so i'm worry that she don't like the smell or it is bad for her etc.

Anyway, talking about fragrance , apart from the nice scent, do you know what is most important about using it? It is to create the image that you wanted to give others. If you are 40 years old and use a fragrance for the teenager, you are portraying the image of old liao still wanna act cute. (unless you look super young).

Today, hime is going to give you a list of fragrance that can help you get a sweet image base on your age.

For the young and little( < 20 years old)

Sixteen

I cannot remember the full name and i cannot find the details of it online. But this fragrance have a super sweet smell and i got it when i was 21 years old. Have been using it during my uni days and i think it really suit the "sweet student". Can be found in Sasa.

For ladies who is just out of school ( >= 20 years old, < 25 years old)

Baby Doll Paris By YSL

The packaging is so adorable. Don't it just shout, "i'm young, sweet yet sophiscated!!"

For the smart workaholic. ( >=25 years old, < 35 years old)

Flower By Kenzo

The lovely rose smell is not too strong, yet visible. Using this will feel as if you are buried in thousands of roses(without thorns).

For the young, mature and feminine you. ( >= 25 years old, < 40 years old)

Lancome Miracle.

I tried to use this when i was in poly. Pershaps because i wanna portray the "I'M feminine" kind of image. I think fragrance really speaks alot for us. The all day jeanzz me successfully bluff an image out using this. The sweetness of the fragrance comes mainly from the jasmine base. The jasmine smell is refreshing and yet sweet. (most refreshing smell are cool concept)

For the elegant ladies ( >= 35 years old)
Don't try to get a sweet image anymore. I'll recommend something else again..

P.S.: The above are for general and daily use. Will recommend some other fragrance for functions etc another day~~ (^_^)

Books to recommend

I found this two books in Kinokuniya that i will really recommend anyone who wants beauty and can read Chinese to buy them. (Unless you know hime personally, i can lend you)

Why it is good? This book hit me directly on my head that my skincare regime is wrong. Totally wrong. The products i choose is also wrong!! (But i had to bear with it coz i have extra 2 L'Oreal foundation refill.) I suppose to use cream or liquid foundation. Though 2-way cake is ok for me, but the formal will be much better.

There are 2 books as i have mention. One is more on skincare but the basic makeup. The main problem in our makeup is we forgot that we should emphasize on the basic foundation and loose powder but not the blusher, eye color and lip color. However, it seems like mascara is also a basic need. Read the book to know why.

The second one is on makeup. Very nice and versatile and also include a list of products that you can use. Choose the look you want, gather your vouchers and cards, you are on your way to be beautiful!!

I can understand how he creates lovely girls.

August Face Mist Recommendation

Rose Hydrating Face Mist

This face mist has a nice sweet rose fragrance which always make my surrounding smell so sweet... Lovely.

Seriously speaking, i wouldn't say it has a good hydrating effect. When i bought this, is more for the scent and that i need a face mist (explain later why). After some usage, i would say it feels good as it refreshes my face, regards of spraying directly to my face or not.

The spraying effect.

I don't know issit i'm lousy at using the product, or it is that i have a big face, i can never get it fully on my face. Something is always wrong.

The good thing about this is that it double up as a toner. So if you get the handbag size, you can throw in your bag whenever you go overseas. I used it when i was in Genting this year and it works pretty good with my other L'Oreal skin care.

Price wise is abit steep i think. $26 for a 50ml. most drugstore toner abt like $10+++ for 200ml to 300ml. But should be cheaper than departmental store toner.

I would recommend to people with oily skin. Coz the hydrating effect is not that strong, but it seems to be able to control of sebum beneath my skin.

Why get a face mist

For those who use a toner as a face mist, it is fine. Face mist is important to use to hydrate your skin, and convenient to do so on the go. If your office has strong air-con, and you use computer/laptop like i do, then face mist is important if not your skin will be super dry.

On the other hand, when you are on the go, you may have your make-up on, so moisturizer is a no-no. Most face mist, are ok with using on top of make-up. Some are even use to set the makeup.

If you belong to those who have dry skin, then wake for a month or so. When i try the new face mist that i bought recently, i'll give my review.

Sleeping Mask

Most of you should know that mask are suppose to be used for 15-20 mins.
You can use it slightly longer, but not as long till next morning!!
One of my industrial attachment mates told me that she use facial mask from before she sleep till she wake up the next morning. I'm so shock!!

Do you know that the mask is suppose to hydrate you and after abt 30 mins, the mask started to become dry, your skin will be hydrating the mask instead!! so anyway, for sheet mask, my rule is that at most 25 mins. and don't fall asleep and give excuses!! your skin is the one in danger!!

anyway, i found something recently that is called a sleeping mask. Sleeping mask is like a essence kind of thingy. After all the night routine for skincare, you apply a thin layer of this sleeping mask on your whole face and then go and sleep. (I still think it is essence) Anyway, there is no need to wash the face after the usage. (But i think you will still wash it after you wake right? Basic cleansing ma)

I found my sleeping mask from The Face Shop with one very lihai woman who can promote things very very well.

Raspberry Roots Sleeping Mask

I have tried the Raspberry Roots last night and i think it wasn't as great as what the person say. Don't know issit becoz i'm cheapskate so i used too litte. But anyway, i do feel a little little little firm of pores upon wake up.

The main purpose of the Raspberry Roots is to tightens pores and re-contours the skin that lacks resilience. so i can only see the slight significant of tightening of pores. But anyway, as what i always say, we don't expect results in one day right?

Another sleeping mask that i'll recommend is also from The Face Shop.
(if you see any other sleeping mask, you can let me know, and i'll check it out)

Ice Flower Hydra Gel Mask

I went to the website and realise that it is not really a sleeping mask but more like a hydration mask. But the application method is the same as the Raspberry Roots.

I have yet to try the Ice Flower on my face yet, but have try on my hand and really feel the difference. Well, i'll give a review on it after i test.

Last but not least, according to the person, Sleeping Mask is more for night use due to the enlarging of poles when we sleep. So the effect will be better when we use at night then in the day time.

Essential Pearl Mask Sheet

I bought 3 mask recently from the face shop @ 3 for $10 which i think is pretty cheap.

Despite suggesting $1.95 Olay Mask from Watson/Guardian, i walk around the two stores recently and found the price has increase to $3.95. Though Sasa mask is cheap, but i had experience with one of them, not a bad one, but nothing special. So i shall i give it a miss 1st.

Wednesday Night i was trying on the Essential Pearl Mask Sheet.

Usually when i try a new face mask, i'll skip my night moisturizer and just go ahead with the mask right after basic toning.

The mask is super big. For a big face like mine, i find the mask abit too big, or maybe is for ppl with big mouth. The chin part actually covers my lower chin instead of the area below my lip.

Anyway, the effect is pretty good. i really see a brighter face upon removing the mask, and i still think my face is brighter when i woke up in the morning. Not very fair, but there is significant improvement in fairness.

I have bought another two mask, Essential Co-Q10 Mask Sheet and Essential Collagen Mask Sheet. I'll update again when i try this two.

Based on my suggested plan skin care for busy people, i think this face mask will be relatively cheap. 2 mask per week, and abt 9 mask is required per month. so that will be $30. Pretty good deal. Even if you put everyday, is about $100 per month. Cheaper than 2 times facial!!!

SPF, PA, UVA, UVB

do you know what is the difference of the four?

From some skin care reading, i found out that

SPF is to "counter" UVB and PA is to "counter" UVA.

So what is the difference between UVA and UVB?

UVA ranges from 400 to 320 nm, UVB from 320 to 290 nm

UVA is the main causes of skin aging, wrinkles, and "breaking" the collagen in our skin.

UVB is responsible for causing sunburn in your skin, making you dark, as well as skin cancer.

This tell you that even if you like to be tan and not white/fair, you still need sunscreen to prevent pre-mature aging, or even to slow down the aging process.

SPF is use to block UVB, the higher the SPF the better. Let say in general, a person will take about 10mins to get burnt(in terms of red skin) under the sun, using a SPF30 will slow the action by 30 x 10 = 300 mins, and a SPF50 will be 50 x 10 = 500mins.

PA is use to block UVA, PA usually comes in PA+ PA++ PA+++. In some europe products, PA is replace by IPD with stars replacing +. Of course, the higher the +, the better.

So all ladies, it does not mean only people like me (who wants to be fair) need sunscreen. With the broken ozone layer, i would say that the sunscreen is for everyone (men, women) in considering the possible of skin cancer.

My suggestion to to use a stronger SPF, at least 40 on your face, and SPF at least 30 on your hands and legs. Of course before you leave the house. By the way, if you put a SPF 30 sunscreen follow by a SPF 20 foundation, you don't get SPF 50 k.
the formula should be max(all the SPF on skin). so only SPF 30.

anyway, hime-sama is using this

i would recommend this as a good and cheap sunscreen for the face. Other sunscreen that i know is good is abit too ex for me in terms of long use.

Don't ask me about effect, coz i'm young so i can't see the diff yet. if 10 years later my skin still good, then i can tell you it is great. but anyway, prevention is better than cure.

August Mascara Recommendation

Maybelline Unstoppable Mascara

My Current Favourite.

I have previously use the old version of the unstoppable mascara, the old and new packaging is a little different, but the inside is very different. The old one is nothing special. or i should say i hate the old brush. The new brush is better, sharper.

Having little and short eye lashes i love anything that lengthen.

The new version is great. it don't really give volume, but it lengthen your lashes yet it does not look like having "fake lashes". I would say it is lovely to use it as a daily mascara for OL (Office Lady), helps prevent too much envy, problem from the female bosses, yet look good enough to see the male bosses and the clients.

Volume eyelashes is more for parties, weekend or the friday dress-down day. Keep cool on the daily mascara. Keep it light.

Tips to get some volume with mascara for lengthening eyelashes.
(best for ppl with thin lashes)

1) Apply 1-2 coat of mascara and let it dry (can put lippy or blusher while waiting)
2) Then apply another 1-2 coat and let it dry
3) one last coat after it dry.

so simple!! in another words, just apply many coats la.. haha

skin care for busy people

busy =
1) people who work from 8:30am to 6pm, reach home about 7pm, worse still, happy hours @ night and reach home later.
2) people who spent weekend out of their house, friday night is a havoc night too.

hey excuse me. busy does not mean you can skip everything k?

to remove the thick thick layer of makeup and prevent yourself from getting all the skin problem means you need to take care!!

of coz, it would be great if everyday you can have time for face mask, body scrub, hand and legs scrub, hair treatment, body moisturizing etc. but busy ppl can't!!

anyway, for the busy people who has the schedule like what i mention above, you may wanna refer to my suggested plan below. of coz, if your schedule is different, email me!! and i'll be glad to plan a special one for you!!

i'll start with sunday.

sunday night.
after a whole weekend of party and thick makeup, it is time to give your skin some concern. do a face scrub and then apply face mask. as you have party too much, went out for shopping, gathering, you will probably be home late. worse still tml need to work!! so a simple face scrub and apply face mask before you sleep would be best. remember not to apply face mask for whole night.

Suggestions:
Face Scrub :L'Oreal Paris White Perfect Relighting Anti-dullness Scrub

Mask: Olay white Radiance. Pick up individual packs from Watsons or Guardian @ $1.95 each.

monday night
end of monday blues!! the best way to make tuesday not blue is to give your hand and leg a treat. do hand and foot scrub during bathe. after your face wash, use essence to hydrate your face to enhanced the face mask did the previous night. last but not least, before sleeping, moisturize your hand and feet. according to many books and website, the best way to moisturize your hands and feet is to apply the hand cream and foot cream, then wear gloves and socks to sleep. i haven tried that. maybe i should try and then update again.

Suggestions:
Foot scrub: CrabTree & Evelyn La Source™ Revitalising Foot Smoother

Hair Cream: CrabTree & Evelyn Rosewater Hand Therapy

Foot Cream: CrabTree & Evelyn La Source™ Extreme Foot Therapy Cream (i have not tried yet)

Essence: L'Oreal Paris White Perfect Relighting Double Essence

helper: The Body "Shop No More Rough Stuff Pumice" (i don't use this either)

tuesday night
time for a body scrub!! dun think that only face, hands and feet needs a scrub, your body too!! if you are "thick skin", then get a brush, if you are "thin skin", the use a glove. after that, use a body lotion to moisturize your skin k!! i yet to try new products for lotion, so can't comment.

Suggestions:
Find a suitable body scrub from the body shop.
Thick Skin : The Body Shop Body Brush (can't find the picture)
Thin Skin : The Body Shop Bath Gloves

wednesday night
hitting mid of the week soon!! repeat your sunday regime. time for a face mask again!!

thursday night
tml is friday and is the start of a busy weekend with gathering and shopping, so quickly give your hands and leg a treat again and they will work great during the weekend. repeat monday regime.

friday night
no work tml? great!! after a night of play, don't be lazy, give your body a scrub so that it look radiance during the date tml. and don't forget the lotion!!

saturday night
i know you are super tired and probably lazy now. ok, give you a discount, remember to remove all make-up properly k!! after a face wash, just use the essence use on monday and thursday. so simple!!

i think the above plan should be simplest. yesterday for a start i try to do face, hand, leg, and body scrub during my bathe. took me about 1 hour and a half hour plus washing hair. so i think is quite fast. good luck!!
